Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf) - Awolnation

This was the first single from Awolnation’s second album, Run, which was released in 2015. I fell in love with Awolnation back in 2011, thanks to their debut album, Megalithic Symphony.

When I first heard this single, I thought they were definitely back! It was four years since their debut album had been released and I was trying to temper my expectations. Typically when I really like an artist’s first album I find that I’m disappointed with their follow-up. The sophomore jinx for sure.

I will definitely cover a few songs from their first album, but for now I’ll start with my initial thoughts about this song.

Running from what? I’m going with fear, and it could be fear of any number of things. But it’s all on me, it’s not the world’s fault, I’m just trying to figure things out and find my way. I’m not blaming anyone but myself for where I am in life right now.

I think the ‘bad wolf’ is whatever he is running from in the first verse, so, fear. It will of course be something different for everyone though, we all have our own bad wolf. But now instead of running from it, I’m going to confront it and deal with it so it doesn’t affect me anymore. I’m not going to kill the bad wolf, just make a deal with it. This acknowledges that it will still be there, but I just won’t let it affect me anymore.

Very emphatic. I’ve just about got all my stuff sorted out now and I’ll be back! It’s been so long since I’ve felt alive, but that’s going to change shortly. Then I’ll be watching myself from the outside, from a different place than I’ve been. All this has made me realize that waiting this long to do so was such a mistake, just middling along, not really doing anything, was just letting life waste away.

The clock will always be laughing at us because it will continue on long after we are gone and underground. Now that I’ve decided to just live life I don’t have time for anything that’s not worth my time. And my enemies? Whatever, I’ll just call them friends from now on, no time to worry about that.

Great first single from the second album. I’m looking forward to diving into a few of the other songs on it. I’ve had a chance to listen to the album a lot more in the time since I originally wrote this, and while it didn’t take hold of me as much as the first one, it’s still a solid album.
